ChatGPT Visibility Checker: Find out if ChatGPT recommends your brand

We put real buyer questions to ChatGPT with web search on, then show whether it names you, where you land in its list, which sources it cites, and who it recommends instead.

Includes a dedicated ChatGPT check

The category a buyer would ask AI about, not your tagline.

  • Results in ~1–2 minutes
  • 6 AI engines

We ask each engine 3 buyer questions and 1 question about your brand. Your scan stays private. See how it works.

How it decides

How ChatGPT decides what to recommend

When a buyer asks ChatGPT for the best tool in a category, there's no ranking you can pay into. A handful of things shape the shortlist, and most of them happen off your website.
  1. It searches, then summarizes

For questions about products and vendors, ChatGPT often runs web searches, frequently several rewritten versions of the question, then writes a short list with links. Pages that already compare options in your category carry a lot of weight.

  2. It repeats what others say about you

Review sites, “best X for Y” articles, comparison pages and community threads are the raw material. If you're missing from those pages, you're usually missing from the answer, however good your homepage is.

  3. It falls back on what the model knows

Without a search, ChatGPT answers from its training data, which has a cutoff. Brands written about often and consistently before that point get named. Newer startups often don't.

  4. It varies by person and by run

Memory, custom instructions, location and the model in use all change the answer. One look in your own account can't tell you what your buyers see.

What we check

What we check for ChatGPT

For each of your three buyer questions, we read ChatGPT's answer and record four things.

Mentioned

Does the answer name your brand or domain anywhere? We match spelling variants and ignore partial words.

Rank in the list

Where you land in ChatGPT's shortlist, and how long the list is. #2 of 5 reads very differently from #5 of 5.

Cited as a source

Whether ChatGPT linked to your own domain, or only to pages other people wrote about you.

Who's named instead

Every other brand in the answer, counted across all six engines, so you can see who owns your category.

Method

How we query ChatGPT

A live answer captured from chatgpt.com with web search on (DataForSEO LLM Scraper). Falls back to the OpenAI API with web search if the capture fails.

ChatGPT's answers change between runs and accounts. Treat one scan as a snapshot and look for the pattern across all three questions.

Plus: the searches behind the answer

When the capture includes them, we list the follow-up searches ChatGPT ran. They show the topics it researched for your buyer, which makes them a ready-made content brief.

Inside the report

What ChatGPT's row looks like

Every scan gives ChatGPT a row like this: your three buyer questions, whether you were named, where you ranked, whether your site was cited, and who was named instead.

Levers

What tends to move ChatGPT

Nobody can promise a ChatGPT mention. These are the levers that keep coming up, and your full report shows which ones apply to you.
  1. Be on the pages it cites

Your report lists the domains ChatGPT cited for your category. Getting reviewed, listed or compared on those pages is the most direct route into its answers.

  2. Say plainly what you are

One clear sentence on your homepage: what you do, who it's for and how you differ. Repeat it on your About page, profiles and directory listings.

  3. Let ChatGPT's search crawler in

OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot to find pages for ChatGPT search. If your robots.txt blocks it, your own pages can't be cited.

  4. Publish comparison pages

“Alternatives to X” and “X vs Y” pages answer the exact questions buyers type into ChatGPT, and give it something of yours to cite.

ChatGPT visibility questions

How we check ChatGPT, what the results mean, and what you can do about them.

No. ChatGPT's answer depends on the run, the model, whether it searched the web, the user's location, and personal context such as memory and custom instructions. Two founders asking the same question can see different shortlists.

That's why one check in your own account is a sample of one. We use consistent settings that aren't tied to your account, record the full answer and its sources, and compare it with five other engines.

On. Buyer questions about vendors and products are the kind where ChatGPT looks things up, and with search on we can see which sources it cited. We capture a live answer from chatgpt.com. If that capture fails, we fall back to OpenAI's API with web search, and your report shows which model answered.

When ChatGPT searches, it often rewrites your question into several shorter searches, for example “best expense software for seed startups” or “Tool A vs Tool B”. When the capture includes them, we list these queries in your full report. They show the topics ChatGPT researched to build its answer, which makes them a ready-made content brief.

A mention means ChatGPT named you, often because a review site, listicle or forum it read named you. A citation means one of your own pages was used as a source. Plenty of brands get the first without the second.

Your report shows both separately. If you're mentioned but not cited, the usual fix is a page on your site that answers the buyer's question directly: a comparison page, a clear pricing page or a use-case page.

There's no switch to flip, but the levers are well understood. Get covered on the pages ChatGPT already cites for your category (your report lists them). Make your site say plainly what you do, who it's for and how you compare. Allow OAI-SearchBot, the crawler OpenAI uses for ChatGPT search, in your robots.txt. Our guide on how to rank in ChatGPT goes step by step.

The free scan always checks all six engines, because buyers don't use just one. Starting from this page simply lists ChatGPT first in your report.
